Designing from the material up.
I'm Ivan Voo, a final-year Industrial Design Honours student at UNSW Sydney. My work sits between sustainable, craft-led practice and medical device design — I'm drawn to projects where the material has to earn its place, not just look the part.
In practice that means starting at the bottom: what the stuff is, how it behaves under heat and load, what it refuses to do. The form comes after. Understanding how something is made before deciding what it should look like is the throughline in everything here.

Orthotics & medical devices
At Orthotic Podiatry I performed 3D foot scans, assisted clinicians during fittings, and observed orthotic fabrication end to end — milling, sanding, finishing. It's where the medical-device thread in my work started: 3D geometry, human factors, and clinical workflow at close range.
Plastics practice
Hand-pressed and hand-finished recycled plastics work developed alongside Shio, exploring the same material-first thinking at a smaller, slower scale.
Dispensary technician
At Allawah Pharmacy I prepared and packaged prescription products in a highly regulated environment — process discipline, documentation habits, and handling medical products safely.
